Honeybees
Within the rose garden, just north of the main entrance, you’ll find 10 bee colonies during the summer months. Each one has 50,000 bees. They help pollinate the flowers in the garden, the herbs in our rooftop garden and they produce nearly 700 pounds of honey every year!
From our glorious gardens to our important local partnerships, caring for our bees and guests is part of our grand earth-friendly plan. The Empress Honeybees live in beehive colonies located in the hotel’s Centennial Garden. Our busy bees help pollinate the flowers in the garden and the herbs in our rooftop garden.
We completed the last honey harvest of the season at the hotel and Honey Farm in Cedar and our bees have produced 3,200 pounds of honey! This year’s golden bounty has been proven to be exceptional and you can find this sweet, liquid honey featured in our menus throughout the hotel and our spa treatments.
Theo Fredrich, our Master Beekeeper, and his team at Fredrich’s Honey Farm care for our more than one million honeybees each year.
